Every single piece of music in this universe lies within a scale, a proper sequence of notes..
These are major & minor scales.... every music has it's identity within the scale means if we say a song of A major scale then the scale A major characterizes the song, its melody, its notes, its chords & many things related to it .....
however identifying the scale is not difficult enough.... but identifying either major or minor is ...
lets take an example,
suppose we have a song .. & the song have all natural notes... & that means the key must be C major or may be in its relative key A minor ... but which one that we doesn't know at all.
& this is the question what is the exact key of the song... how to differentiate major or minor ....
& how can we recognize major or minor ...
today is the time to tell about recognizing the scale ... a very renowned job for a musician..
okkayyy !! so lets get started step by step . .
remember one thing, this task is not so theoretical .. you need some basic knowledge & some guidelines (i will tell you next) ... & this is kinda trial & error method .. you have to iterate step by step for the best outcome .. and you have to focus on your music .... that means you have to work hard & you have to do a good amount of experiments.....
#1.SCALE HOLDS THE TONALITY OF A SONG :
a) mood:
Major scale tonalities or moods are : happiness, brightness, loudness, cheerfulness, joyful etc
Minor scale tonalities or moods are :sorrow, sadness, silence, thrill, soothing etc
so the fast task is to feel the mood of your song ....& according to that find the probable scale ...
but nowadays music has become so digitized & developed that sometime it becomes very hard to find the scale by trying to catch the tonality ... so that's why we have to go to the second level of sorting...
b) pitch map :
it is found that major scale sometime contains steadiness in pitch
whereas waving of pitch have a better fit in minor scale
so concentrate in your pitch distribution...
#2.CHORD PROGRESSION :
compose chord progression for your song in both the keys..
examine which have best suit
here you have to experiment with these progressions....
#3 INTRO OF YOUR SONG:(important one)
most of the songs(>80%) in world starts with the tonic note ....
tonic note means 1st note of your scale
& again your chord progression start with the tonic chord
its an very important one ... very useful way recognize the scale ...
1)check the 1st note of your song
(suppose your 1st note is F#)
2)check the 1st chord also ...
(suppose F# minor)
therefore scale is F# minor ...
between these two you might find the tonic of your scale & then you will identify the scale..
mainly these are the points you should remember & follow... & more experience you get the faster you will learn....
so practice & acquire experiences .... then it should be difficult no longer ....
